Photos are precious memories for a family and important story to share with the young generations. From this perspective, it’s essential to take good care of them during packing and moving around NYC. Some of them are irreplaceable items, so make sure to offer them the proper protection and treatment in order to keep their quality intact after before decorating the new home.
- Avoid damaging the corners of photographs or breaking the glass for those who have a special frame by choosing a container suitable for different sizes. Do not forget to secure them with proper cushioning and protect them with padding from the margins of the box.
- Don’t skip the labeling part, as well. It might be time consuming, but having all the important details on the back of your pictures will help you organize and store them quickly in plastic bags or acid-free albums. - Even though there is enough space in the moving truck, if you have some old, important photos with great value, it is best to care them with you. It’s easy to lose a small box full of photograph in the amount of different appliances and home items.

First, the duration of the move is different as, from our experience; each client has his or her own circumstances that influence how fast the moving process is. It is good to ask your friends or online users about their previous relocation experiences, but don’t forget that their particular situations can’t be applied exactly in your case.
- How long it takes to move, depends on the amount of items, moving boxes needed to be packed and transported on the moving day. It may take more time to move special items, such as pianos, chandeliers or big appliances, so be sure to find professional moving help if special crates are needed when packing.
- Consider the actual route that NYC movers or your family will use to circulate from room to room to get the things in the moving truck, if it involves stairs and use of elevators that if might be necessary to reserve the elevator and extra care and time to not damage or scratch items moved.
- Distance is essential when estimate the duration of the move. Google Maps might be great an offering time estimation and directions in order to arrive quicker at the new home, but it’s advisable to not rely solely on these traffic suggestions as driving might take longer if the moving truck is transporting fragile items or is caught in a traffic jam.

Almost every family owns at least one desktop computer and it’s a valuable and indispensable equipment, especially for people working in computer-related fields. A laptop can be transported more easily as it is designed as a portable unit in the first place, but how do you deal with a heavy, big unit full or cables and cords?
- If you’re lucky enough to find in the basement the original packaging of your PC, then it’s the best case scenario and you don’t have to be creative in finding cushion and proper container for each computer item. Otherwise, be sure to gather plastic bags, old clothes or towels, rolls of bubble wrap and get starting with packing!
- The first essential step when packing your computer should be saving all the important information on portable storage or online through Cloud services.
- Be sure to shut down the equipment and remove any disks or devices connected to your PC and disconnect each part from the power source.
- Before unplugging the cables, it’s best to mark them with colors labels in order to ease your assembling process after the move. When the labeling part is finished, you can wrap the wires and secure them to prevent finding them tangled upon your arrival at the new location.
- Before placing the monitor or CPU in sturdy containers, it’s recommended to cover the bottom with soft padding material to avoid any shock during the transportation. Point out on the container the content type and that is fragile, especially if you have movers helping you out.
- The keyboard deserves special attention, too. Be sure to cover it in bubble wrap and place in a single box, if you can’t find one suitable for your keyboard, you can put it with the other small peripheral items (cables, speakers, mouse, web cameras, microphones), but provide extra cushion between them.
- If you hire a moving company to help you with packing and transportation, make sure that the insurance covers any PC damage. Another safe transportation solution would be to keep your computer in your personal car during the moving process, as it is widely recommended when dealing with valuable possessions.
