A moving insurance might be a good idea for protecting your goods during a move. Although we have received many awards for our service, we are nonetheless human and, upon occasion, mistakes do happen; this is when a moving insurance comes in handy. We want to make sure you are fully protected during your move with our moving insurance in NYC and surroundings, so when moving with Empire Movers, you can choose to purchase a valuation option that covers your shipment. Storage valuation is also available.

The following is a brief description of the NYC moving insurance options for protecting your belongings during the move in New York.

Option 1

$0.30 (thirty cents) per pound per article valuation (Released Valuation).

On New York moves that are charged by the hour, in accordance with NYS Department of Transportation regulations, your Bill of Lading issued by Empire Movers provides a "valuation" (i.e. NYC moving insurance), at no cost to you, of the greater of:

  • 1. thirty cents per pound on local moves or sixty cents per pound on long distance moves, per article; or
  • 2. $2,500 for the entire shipment.

This is a minimum amount of protection and the customer should be aware that this does not provide full coverage moving insurance for belongings. Having this protection does not exclude the purchase of additional third party moving insurance in NYC.

Option 2

$0.60 (sixty cents) per pound per article valuation (Released Valuation).

On moves that are based on a fixed price, in accordance with NYS Department of Transportation regulations, your Bill of Lading issued by Empire Movers provides a "valuation" (i.e. NYC moving insurance), at no cost to you, of the greater of:

  • 1. sixty cents per pound on local moves or sixty cents per pound on long distance moves, per article; or
  • 2. $5,000 for the entire shipment.

This is a minimum amount of protection and the customer should be aware that this does not provide full coverage moving insurance for your belongings. Having this protection does not exclude the purchase of additional third party insurance.

Option 3

Full Replacement Value Insurance.
For customers who are seeking full protection for their goods with our moving insurance while in transit, the best option is a third party insurer. Very often, your homeowner's moving insurance will cover moving from one residence to another, so please check with your broker.


Exclusions from our moving insurance in NYC:

  • Items of extraordinary value not listed on the High Value Inventory Form
  • Lamps, lamp shades, artwork, pictures, mirrors, artificial plants and statues not packed by Empire Movers NYC
  • Any marble or glass not crated or boxed by Empire Movers NYC
  • Items found broken in boxes not packed or unpacked by our company
  • Mechanical condition of audio/visual or electronic equipment
  • Computers and battery operated items in transit or storage
  • Missing hardware for items not disassembled by us
  • Gold leaf or plaster frames and chandeliers not crated by Empire Movers NYC
  • Pressboard or particleboard furniture
  • Previously damaged or repaired items
  • Previously damaged or loose veneer
  • Furniture where original glue has dried out
  • Any small, loose items which are not boxed (keys, remote controls, etc.)
  • If one item in a set is damaged, only that one item is covered by the insurance, not the entire set
  • Plants (live, dried, or artificial)
