A partnership rooted in home, dignity, and logistics
At Empire Movers and Storage NYC, we understand that moving is never just about furniture. It is about transition, safety, stability, and the feeling of finally having a place where life can begin again.
That is why we are proud to be the official Preferred Moving and Storage Partner for A Sense of Home in New York City.
A Sense of Home, also known as ASOH, works to prevent homelessness by creating first-ever homes and a community of care for youth aging out of foster care. The organization’s ‘Welcome Home’ program transforms empty spaces into fully furnished, functional, and beautiful homes with the help of donors and volunteers.
Our role in this partnership is practical, but deeply meaningful. We provide dedicated, secure warehouse storage space at our NYC facility, giving ASOH a central hub in New York City where donated furniture and home goods can be collected, inspected, organized, staged, and prepared before delivery.
In a city as complex as New York, that logistical support matters. A donated sofa needs space. A dining table needs protection. Beds, dressers, rugs, lamps, kitchen items, artwork, and décor need to be sorted, stored, tracked, and delivered safely. Without the right storage and moving infrastructure in NYC, even generous donations can become difficult to manage.
Through this partnership, we help ASOH turn donated items into functional homes.
Why A Sense of Home’s mission matters
A housing voucher or apartment approval is an important step, but it does not automatically create a livable home.
An empty apartment can still feel unstable. Without a bed, table, couch, cookware, lighting, storage, and basic household goods, a person or family may have housing on paper but still lack the foundation needed to rest, parent, study, work, heal, and rebuild.
A Sense of Home exists to close that gap. The organization’s mission is built around the belief that home is more than shelter. It is the foundation for survival. ASOH brings together donated furniture, volunteers, designers, community members, and Pay-It-Forward ambassadors to create spaces that feel complete, safe, and personal.
This mission is especially urgent for former foster youth. ASOH states that 50% of those struggling with homelessness are former foster youth, and that prevention is essential to ending the homelessness crisis.
For us, supporting ASOH means using our moving and storage expertise where it can make a direct difference. We are not just storing furniture. We are helping protect the items that will become someone’s bed, someone’s table, someone’s reading chair, someone’s first real place to come home to.
Our warehouse is a hub for Home Creations
One of the most important parts of our partnership is our dedicated warehouse storage at our Queens facility.
This space functions as ASOH’s New York City logistics hub. Donated furniture and home goods can be received, inspected, staged, and prepared for upcoming Home Creations. That may sound simple, but in practice, it is a major operational need.
Furniture donations are bulky. Home goods arrive in different sizes, conditions, and categories. Some items need protection. Some need to be grouped by room. Some need to be held until the right Home Creation is ready. Some pieces may be delicate, heavy, or difficult to move through New York City buildings.
Our warehouse helps bring order to that process.
With secure storage, ASOH can accept high-quality donations and prepare them for families and individuals who need them. Our team helps make sure the furniture is not sitting in random locations, being passed between multiple parties, or rushed into delivery before a home is ready.
In this partnership, storage is not just a service. It is the bridge between generosity and real impact.
ASOH’s first Home Creation in New York City
In May 2026, A Sense of Home completed its first-ever Home Creation in New York City.
The recipients were Kxalima, a former foster youth and now a lawyer, and her 4-year-old son, Kashmir. Volunteers used furniture and home goods stored at our NYC warehouse to transform an empty space into a fully furnished, healing environment.
This milestone marked the official launch of ASOH’s work in New York City, a city with one of the largest foster youth populations in the nation.
The Home Creation brought together volunteers, Pay-It-Forward ambassadors, local designers, and community members. Each person helped turn donated furniture into something much bigger than décor. They helped create a home where a mother and child could feel safe, seen, and supported.
For our team, this first NYC Home Creation showed exactly why logistics matter.
The items had to be stored. They had to be organized. They had to be handled carefully. They had to arrive safely. They had to be placed with dignity. The result was not just a furnished apartment. It was a functional home created through community, planning, and care.
The heavy lifting behind a nonprofit mission
Community work often depends on logistics that most people never see.
Before a Home Creation can happen, donated items need to move through several steps. Furniture must be accepted, transported, stored, inspected, staged, loaded, delivered, assembled, and placed. In New York City, each of those steps can become complicated.
There are tight streets, narrow hallways, freight elevator rules, building access windows, parking limitations, COI requirements, and large furniture pieces that require trained handling.
That is where our moving experience becomes useful.
We handle the heavy lifting behind the mission by helping manage the storage and transport of bulky donated items across the complex NYC grid. This allows ASOH, volunteers, designers, and community partners to focus on the human side of each Home Creation.
Our work is behind the scenes, but it supports the entire process. A couch cannot comfort anyone if it never reaches the apartment. A bed cannot provide rest if it is damaged in transit. A dining table cannot become part of family life if it is stuck in storage with no plan.
The details matter because the people receiving these homes matter.
Why direct-carrier accountability matters
As a licensed carrier, not a broker, we provide direct accountability for the goods we handle.
That distinction is important in all types of moving, but it is especially meaningful in this partnership. A broker may arrange a move through multiple outside parties. As a direct carrier, we manage the process through our own systems, crews, storage operations, and transportation network.
For ASOH, this creates a stronger chain of custody for donated furniture and home goods.
Items are not simply passed through unknown hands. They are stored, protected, organized, transported, and delivered with direct oversight. That helps reduce confusion, delays, and damage.
When the goal is to furnish a first-ever home for someone at a vulnerable transition point, reliability is not optional. A missing mattress, damaged dresser, or delayed furniture delivery can affect comfort, dignity, and the emotional impact of the Home Creation.
Our direct-carrier model helps bring stability to a process that depends on trust.
Sustainability through second-life furniture
This partnership also reflects a more sustainable way to think about furniture.
High-quality furniture should not automatically end up in landfills. Many pieces still have years of life left. Through ASOH’s model, donated furniture and home goods can be given a second life in a new home, where they become part of someone’s daily stability.
Our role helps make that reuse practical.
By providing storage, handling, and transport, we help keep valuable furniture in circulation. A table becomes a place for meals. A couch becomes a place to rest. A dresser becomes a way to organize daily life. A bed becomes a place where a child can sleep safely.
This is sustainability with a human outcome. It is not only about reducing waste. It is about making sure the right items reach the right homes at the right time, in the right condition.
Community strength starts with a stable home
New York City is a place of constant movement. People arrive, leave, relocate, downsize, expand, rebuild, and start again. As NYC movers, we see every kind of transition. Some moves are luxury relocations, some are office moves, some are long-distance moves across the country, and some are deeply personal life changes.
Our partnership with A Sense of Home reminds us that moving can also be part of prevention, healing, and community strength. A furnished home can help someone move beyond survival mode. It can create the conditions for rest, routine, parenting, work, school, and hope. It can give a young person or family the chance to walk into a space that says: You belong here.
That is why this work matters to us.
Our strength as NYC movers is not only in our trucks, warehouse, equipment, or logistics systems. It is in our ability to use those resources to help people start again with dignity.
A preferred partnership with a deeper purpose
We are honored to serve as the official Preferred Moving and Storage Partner for A Sense of Home in New York City.
This partnership brings together secure warehouse storage, professional moving logistics, community donations, volunteer energy, interior design support, and a shared belief in the power of home.
ASOH’s first New York City Home Creation in May 2026 was an important milestone, but it was also a beginning. With our Queens warehouse serving as a logistics hub, we are proud to support the organization’s growth in NYC and help make future Home Creations possible.
A home is not created by walls alone. It needs a bed, a table, a chair, a light to turn on at night, and a place where daily life can feel stable. For former foster youth, families in crisis, and people recovering from displacement, those pieces are not extras. They are part of the foundation for survival.
At Empire Movers and Storage NYC, we are proud to help A Sense of Home bring that foundation to more people in New York City, one Home Creation, one delivery, and one family at a time.
